Some people say children should be seen and not heard. We beg to differ!
The children you’re seeing here receive services at the Center for Hearing and Communication (CHC), and their parents rejoice every time they hear them speak. The children are joyful, noisy, inquisitive and opinionated, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. They are also deaf and hard of hearing, and we are teaching them how to talk. It’s not always easy.
I’ve seen firsthand the devastation on a parent’s face when they first find out that their baby is deaf. I’ve heard their worries about whether or not their child will ever learn to talk, to go to school, to get a job. I let them know our acclaimed clinical staff will be there every step of the way. And then I’ve seen them smile, as together we hear first words and so much more.
Without CHC, many of these children would not receive the help they need. Sixty percent of the funding for our state-of-the-art clinical programs comes from private donations, such as yours. We don’t ever want to be in a position to have to turn away a family’s hopes and dreams, and with your help, we won’t have to.
