New Technology Makes Hearing Aids Big Again

The compact size of today's hearing devices is a welcome breakthrough for most people with hearing loss. But for those who also have a vision loss, the small size can present challenges when learning how to use and maintain a new hearing aid.

Addressing this issue, the Center for Hearing and Communication is pleased to offer a new piece of technology made available through a grant from the Commission for the Blind and Visually Handicapped. The desktop video magnifier is an ingenious device that magnifies documents or objects so that they are visible to people with limited vision.

There are many clients we see at the Center for Hearing and Communication who have vision loss as well as hearing loss (known as dual sensory impairment or DSI). The desktop video magnifier will enable us to teach clients with DSI to learn how to put batteries in their hearing aids, clean the aids or to read the instruction manuals that come with them.

We are excited to have this technology to offer our clients.
