These children think they’re playing. They’re probably having a ball, but in reality they’re in intensive auditory-oral therapy. Therapy that will continue throughout much of their childhood.
It can be tough at times. We know because we’ve been there. Just a few years ago we were the children in therapy at the Center for Hearing and Communication. Most of us spent 300 hours or more in group and individual sessions. (That’s before we even entered first grade!) Our hope for the Class of 2024, and every class after them, is that they have the same opportunities we had.
Was it worth it? We wouldn’t have it any other way. And our parents couldn’t agree more. Therapy at the Center for Hearing and Communication prepares children who have a hearing loss for a successful mainstream education. CHC’s standards are higher so the kids develop better communication skills - skills that serve us every single day.
The cost of children’s therapy is only partly funded by the fees CHC receives for services. The rest comes from donations by caring individuals like you. Some of you made gifts years ago that made therapy possible for us. For that we are deeply grateful.
