Free Screenings Aren't Just for Adults Anymore
The Center for Hearing and Communication is pleased to announce that we now offer free hearing screenings to kids ages 7 and up in our New York office, effective immediately.
The screenings, which take about 10-15 minutes, are available every Wednesday (12-2pm) and Thursday (4-6pm) by appointment only. Please note that children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver and will need to submit a signed parent permission form (which you can download at the bottom of this page). Phone (917) 305-7766 to schedule an appointment today. As always, adults are welcome to get their hearing screened as well.
Parents of young children are urged to take advantage of this new service because the practice of screening children who enter kindergarten and first grade has been discontinued in NYC public schools. The school screenings played a critical role in identifying children who have a hearing loss and require further testing.
Children's hearing health is an issue that concerns us deeply. The diagnosis and treatment of hearing loss is essential because a child with even a mild hearing loss can miss as much as 50% of what goes on in a classroom.
